Áreas de altitude igual ou inferior a 100 m na freguesia dos Biscoitos, no município da Praia da Vitória, ilha Terceira.

Solos

Litólicos não húmidos e litossolos, sobre substrato consolidado de basaltos ou rochas afins, andesitos e traquitos, em geral correspondente a lavas recentes, frequentemente associados a afloramentos rochosos e por vezes com material pedregoso disseminado.

Verdelho, Arinto dos Açores e Terrantez do Pico.

 

DOP

Protected Designation of Origin - Biscoitos

Recognition: It is recognized DOP - Biscoitos for the production of fortified wines.

Area: altitude areas equal to or less than 100 m in Biscoitos, in the municipality of Praia da Vitória, Terceira.

Solos: Litólicos not moist and lithosols on consolidated substrate basalts and related rocks, andesites and trachytes generally corresponding to recent lavas, often associated with rocky outcrops and sometimes widespread stony material.

recommended varieties: Verdelho, Arinto and Terrantês;

Varieties authorized: Boal, Malvasia, Sercial, Fernão Pires, Generosa and Galician Gold;

yield per hectare: 50 hl.

alcoholic strength by volume in natural power of musts: at least 12% vol ..

Stage: minimum of three years in wooden casks.

Total alcoholic strength of wine: not less than 16% vol ..

organoleptic characteristics of the wines: liqueur wines complex aroma of spices, full-bodied and well structured.

Denomination of Controlled Origin - Biscoitos

 

Recognition: It is recognized DOC - Biscoitos for Quality Wine production and Sparkling Wines.

Geographical area: altitude areas equal to or less than 100 m in Biscoitos , in the municipality of Praia da Vitória , Terceira.

Soils: Litholic not moist and lithosols on consolidated substrate basalts and related rocks, corresponding to recent lavas associated with rocky outcrops , sometimes with widespread stony materials and consolidated lava mantle to the surface;

Varieties: At least 80 % of the total volume of the must should come from Arinto the Azores , Terrantez Pico and Verdelho.

The remainder of the total volume of the must, may come from the following varieties : Arinto , Chardonnay , Fernão Pires , Galician Gold, Generosa , Gouveio , Malvasia , Malvasia Fina, Moscatel Galego Branco , Muscat Graúdo , Rio Grande , New Seara, Sercial and Viosinho.

Product features: Musts for quality wines must have an actual alcoholic strength in minimum natural power of 10 % vol.

Must intended for the base wine for sparkling wine must have an alcoholic strength by volume in minimum natural power of 10 % vol.

Quality wines must have an actual alcoholic strength full of not less than 10.5%.

Sparkling wines must have an actual alcoholic strength full of not less than 11.5%.

Stage: Quality wines can be bottled after a minimum six-month stage.
